Used to modify the properties of the selected folder or
work area. Opens when you select a folder or
work area and then select
.
General tab
Contains controls that define the basic properties of the
folder or
work area, such as its name, location in the
datasource, and who is the owner of it.
Setting | Description |
---|
Name
|
Sets the display name for the folder or
work area.
Note:
ProjectWise only supports characters in folder or
work area names that the operating
system supports in file system folder names. You will get a warning if you try
to create a folder or
work area with invalid characters in the
name.
For
legacy reasons,
ProjectWise will let you use the
"\" character in folder or
work area names (it will warn you first,
but it will still let you). If you later try to export such a folder or
work area, two local folders will be
created, with the portion after the
"\" becoming a subfolder of the portion
before the
"\". For example, if the folder name in
ProjectWise is
"DGNS\DWGS", then after export,
"DWGS" becomes a subfolder of
"DGNS" on the file system.
|
Description
|
An optional description for the folder or
work area. If your user setting
is on, the description of the folder or
work area will display in
ProjectWise Explorer instead of its name.
|
Parent
|
Displays the full path to where the folder or
work area exists in the datasource. If the
folder or
work area exists at the root of the
Documents root folder, the
Parent field will be blank.
|
Environment
|
Sets the environment to be used by the folder or
work area. By default all folders created
under this folder or
work area inherit this folder's environment.
If you do not want an environment associated to this folder or
work area, you can set
Environment to
<none>.
|
(Environment) Description
|
Displays the environment's description, if one
exists.
|
Storage
|
Displays the current storage area used by this
folder or
work area. The storage area is physical
location on a server where the master copies of documents that get placed in
this folder or
work area will be stored. The storage area
gets assigned when the folder or
work area is created. If you use this
setting to later change the storage area, then any documents that get placed in
this folder or
work area after the storage area is
changed will be stored in the newly designated storage area, but any documents
that existed in the folder or
work area before the storage area
was changed will remain in their originally designated storage area.
Use the
Browse button (...)
to the right of the
Storage list if you need to view disk
usage statistics of the selected storage area.
|

Resources
tab
(Work areas only)
The resources of a
work area are a subset of the datasource's
resources, such as applications, departments, environments, and so on. This tab
lets you select which of those resources you want to make available to users of
the selected
work area. A
work area can either inherit resources from its
parent
work area, from the datasource, or it can have
its own subset of resources.
Setting | Description |

Resource Type
|
Available resource types you can modify are:
- Application
- Department
- Environment
- Storage
- View
- Workflow
- Workspace Profile

Properties
tab
(Work areas only)
This tab displays the custom properties of the selected
work area, and the name of the
work area type used.

Document list view
|
This section lets you define which view will be
applied to the document list when this folder or
work area is selected. When both a personal
view and a global view are assigned in this section, then that personal view
will be applied. When neither a personal view nor a global view is assigned in
this section, then whatever is set as the default view for the document list
for all folders and
work areas in the datasource is applied.
|
Preview pane view
|
In this section you can define which view to apply
to the Preview Pane when this folder or
work area is selected. When both a personal
view and a global view are assigned in this section, then that personal view
will be applied. When neither a personal view nor a global view is assigned in
this section, then whatever is set as the default view for the Preview Pane for
all folders and
work areas in the datasource is applied.
|
Participants
tab
(Work areas only)
Lets you add users, groups, and/or user lists as
participants to the selected
work area, assign roles to participants, and
customize their access rights (security permissions).
Setting | Description |
---|
Participant list
|
- Participant column -
Displays the names of the users, groups, or user lists who are included in this
work area.
- Role column -
Displays which role is assigned to each user, group, or user list. New
participants are automatically assigned the Team Member role. You can click
inside the Role column to change a participant's role. Possible roles to select
are Administrator, Leader, Team Member, Observer, No Access. Any participant
with customized permissions has the Custom role.
|
Add
|
Opens the Select Security Objects dialog, which is
used to add users, groups, and/or user lists to the Participant list.
|
Remove
|
Removes the selected users, groups, and/or user
lists from the Participant list.
|
Advanced
|
Used to customize a participant's security
permissions. Clicking
Advanced opens the Work Area Security dialog
with three tabs for setting security -
Work Area\Folder Security,
Document Security, and
Component Security. The Component Security
tab only displays if
Include Engineering Component Access Rights
is on, on the Participants tab.
|
Include Engineering Component Access Rights
|
Used to control whether or not component security is
available in a given
work area. When on,
work area administrators can assign
component security permissions to
work area participants as usual. Turning
this option off instantly removes component security for all participants in a
work area, and also prevents further
component security from being set. What happens to a user's component security
permissions when you turn the option back on depends on whether or not the
participant's role was customized in any way before the option was turned off.
Consider the following examples:
-
"Mary" is assigned the Leader role. Turning
off
Include Engineering Component Access
Rights removes all component security from the
work area. Assuming Mary's role is still
set to Leader when
Include Engineering Component Access
Rights is turned back on, Mary will be re-assigned the default
component security permissions in the Leader role.
-
"Bob" is assigned the Team Member role. Bob's
component security permissions are unchanged, but his document security
permissions are customized, so that his role is changed to Custom. Turning off
Include Engineering Component Access
Rights removes all component security from the
work area. When
Include Engineering Component Access
Rights is turned back on, Bob's original component security
permissions are not re-assigned, and Bob is not included in the Component
Security list at all.
-
"Phil" is assigned the Observer role. Phil's
component security permissions are customized so that his role is changed to
Custom, but none of his other security permissions are changed. Turning off
Include Engineering Component Access
Rights removes all component security from the
work area. Also, because none of his
other security permissions were changed, Phil's role switches back to the role
he had (Observer) before his component security permissions were customized.
Then, assuming Phil's role is still set to Observer when
Include Engineering Component Access
Rights is turned back on, Phil's customized security permissions
are not restored, but Phil is re-assigned the default component security
permissions in the Observer role.
Tip: This option is off by default
for new
work areas, or existing
work areas with no component security
already set. If the
work area has some component security
already set, this option will be on by default.
|
Permissions
|
Opens a read-only window listing all of the
work area participants and their folder,
document, and component access within this
work area. Component access only displays if
Include Engineering Component Access Rights
is on, on the Participants tab.
|

tab
Lets you assign a workspace profile or various managed
workspace settings to the folder or
work area.
Work Area\Folder
Security tab
(Folders only)
Lets you add the users, groups, and user lists you want to
have access to the folder, thereby excluding all other users from accessing the
folder. If no users, groups or lists are added on this tab, then all users,
groups and lists have access. Once a user, group, or user list is added, you
can set the permissions for each.

Security Type
|
-
Folder — If selected, the
Workflow and
State lists are disabled. The list shows
the folder's own Security Objects or security inherited from the Object
Security hierarchy.
-
Workflow — If selected, the
Workflow and
State lists become active. The Workflow
list displays all the available workflows in the datasource. Selecting a
workflow from the list assigns permissions to that folder, which become active
when the folder is placed in the selected workflow. The State list displays all
the available states within the selected workflow. Selecting a state from the
list assigns permissions to that folder, which become active when the folder is
placed in the selected state within the workflow.
-

list (untitled) in the security tab when creating a new folder.
|
Users list (untitled)
|
Displays the users, groups, and/or user lists who
have security set for the selected security type.
|
Permissions list (untitled)

used to add users, groups, and/or user lists to the Users list.
|
Remove
|
Removes the selected users, groups, and/or user
lists from the Users list.
|
Document Security
tab
Lets you set the access control permissions that apply
generally to all the documents at the root of the folder.
The Document Security tab works in a very similar way to
the Work Area\Folder Security tab. The same security types are available in the
Security Type list. Any users who have
Datasource Global Permissions for document security (created by the
ProjectWise administrator) display in the Users
list (left, untitled window). The
Inherited from field displays the name of the
item the document inherits its rights from. For Document it can be global
datasource, environment, workflow, workflow state or folder. For example, in
ProjectWise Administrator, if users are added to
document security at datasource level, these display in the Users window when
creating a new document.
The Users list displays the users, groups, and/or user
lists that have permissions to document's in this folder. When an item in that
list is selected, the
Inherited from field and
Permissions list (right, untitled window) update
accordingly. They display where the inheritance comes from and what their
permissions are.
